"Ping Pong" is a play for young people about being a child welfare child, being removed from home and living in an institution. It is a story about boy friendship and a ping pong table, about being a throwaway ball in the system and how much it hurts to have pimples on your butt.
Tigerstadsteatret and Teatret Vårt collaborate on theatre for young people and focus on sustainability and reuse of really good performing arts for young people. The performance will have its Norwegian premiere on August 23, 2024 at Voldsløkka Scene in Oslo and will be performed at Teatret Vårt in Møre og Romsdal in the fall of 2025.
Ping Pong is written by the Norwegian duo Leiv Arne Kjøllmoen and Henriette Vedel who have lived and worked in Denmark for many years. The performance is developed based on interviews with young people in the child welfare system and was originally produced by Teatret FairPlay in Zealand. In 2022, the performance was nominated for the Reumert Prize for best performance for young people and in 2023 it was named Performance of the Year for Children and Young People by CPH Culture.
In Norway, Kjøllmoen/Vedel have created the productions Kafka at NAV and Sånne som oss at Haugesund Teater and The More We Are Together at Teatret Vårt. For Sånne som oss, the duo was nominated for Hedda for best stage text in 2017.
When the performance is now in Norwegian, actors Kaleb Haile and Sebastian Legaard Engeland will be on stage under the direction of Leiv Arne Kjøllmoen.
